John Travolta implores us to do our part to combat Climate Change:

His serious aviation habit means he is hardly the best person to lecture others on the environment. But John Travolta went ahead and did it anyway. The 53-year-old actor, a passionate pilot, encouraged his fans to "do their bit" to tackle global warming. But although he readily admitted: "I fly jets", he failed to mention he actually owns five, along with his own private runway. Clocking up at least 30,000 flying miles in the past 12 months means he has produced an estimated 800 tons of carbon emissions – nearly 100 times the average Briton's tally.

John Travolta

Ok...I guess I'll get my Space Shuttle out of the carport. Notice how green the grass is in the surrounding environs, perhaps all those carbon emissions are good for his lawn.

British Soldiers seized by Iran may be tried for crossing into Iraqi
waters:

Iran's ambassador to Russia renewed a threat Iranian officials made earlier this week, saying 15 British sailors held by Iran could be tried for violating international law, Iran's state news agency IRNA reported Saturday.

Gholam-Reza Ansari told Russian television Vesti-24 on Friday that Iran had launched a legal investigation of the British sailors. "They will be tried if there is enough evidence of guilt," Ansari was quoted by IRNA as saying.

And this is all they are going to do in response:

BREMEN, Germany (Reuters) - Britain said on Saturday it was concerned at Iranian "saber-rattling" ; about possibly putting captured British naval personnel on trial and for the first time voiced regret that the incident had occurred.

Flip flop:

MCCAIN'S (R)Arizona, Memory:

'I was approached by Kerry to run as his running mate and I rejected it out of hand'...

McCain Said VP Slot 'Was Never Offered' By Kerry...

McCain Said 'Obviously, I Would Entertain' Running With Kerry...

Somebody's having a senior moment..or several of them. Nanci does Syria:

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi will visit Syria, a country President Bush has shunned as a sponsor of terrorism, despite being asked by the administration not to go.

"In our view, it is not the right time to have these sort of high- profile visitors to Syria," State Department spokesman Sean McCormack told reporters Friday.

Pelosi arrived in Israel on Friday in what is her second fact-finding trip to the Middle East since taking over leadership in the House in January.

Her repeat trip, an indication she plans to play a role in foreign policy, is also a direct affront to the administration, which says such diplomatic overtures by lawmakers can do more harm than good.

If she needs that gigantic ass plane of her's that stirred up so much controversy recently just to get across the country in style, imagine what she's using now, probably 10 of them. Carbon Footprint dearheart, Carbon Footprint...

Ah! The institution of marriage:

BERLIN (Reuters) - A man shot dead his ex-wife in a busy terminal building at Stuttgart airport as she prepared to take a flight, police said on Saturday.

The 31-year-old man fired several shots, killing his 25-year-old former wife and injuring a male bystander, a police spokeswoman from the nearby town of Esslingen said. Both the man and his ex-wife were of Serbian origin.

The woman had intended to take a flight for Pristina, the capital of Serbia's breakaway province of Kosovo. The gunman fled after the shooting but was caught by police officers in the airport car park. The motive for the shooting was unclear.

Much ado about nothing continues:

President Bush isn't rushing to the rescue of his old Texas friend, Alberto Gonzales, after the attorney general's one-time lieutenant undercut his old boss' account of the firings of eight federal prosecutors.
Rather than merely signing off on the firings, as Gonzales has repeatedly stated, his former chief of staff says the attorney general was in the middle of things from the beginning.

The "Date Certain for Surrender" bill rolls on:

Senate Democrats ignored a veto threat and pushed through a bill Thursday requiring President Bush to start withdrawing troops from "the civil war in Iraq," dealing a rare, sharp rebuke to a wartime commander in chief.

In a mostly party line 51-47 vote, the Senate signed off on a bill providing $122 billion to pay for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. It also orders Bush to begin withdrawing troops within 120 days of passage while setting a nonbinding goal of ending combat operations by March 31, 2008.

..and in the rarified air that is D.C., a Senator actually said something that made sense:

"Surely this will embolden the enemy and it will not help our troops in any way," said Sen. Richard Shelby, R-Alabama.

Let's "Carbon Neutralize" Big Al...

Gore's Live Earth Concert may or not be held at the Capitol:

Fresh from his face-to-face tussle with former Vice President Al Gore, Sen. James Inhofe (R-Okla.) is vowing to stall Gore’s hotly anticipated Capitol concert to draw attention to global warming.

Inhofe’s belief that climate change is “the greatest hoax ever perpetrated on the American people” is common knowledge in the capitol, and environmental groups cheered the new prospects for carbon-capping legislation when he ceded the Environment and Public Works Committee gavel this session. But Inhofe’s parliamentary powers can block indefinitely the resolution that would permit Gore to choose the capitol’s West Front for the U.S. leg of his seven-continent Live Earth concert tour — a collaboration between Gore and promoter Kevin Wall, who masterminded previous blockbuster charity concerts Live Aid and Live 8.

I say let Al have his little concert and then accurately weigh, chronicle and report the amount of garbage generated by said concert, estimate the Carbon Footprint created by yonder festival, then fine him accordingly.

Ooh! This is cutting edge:

"You and your smarmy pundits -- and the smarmy pundits you have in your pocket -- can take your war and shove it," Penn said. "Let's unite not only in stopping this war, but in holding this administration accountable."

Turn it into a movie and you could get another Oscar. Someone trying to rain on Gore's parade and it's not Mother Nature:

You probably didn't notice it (since readers of The Crypt have actual lives), but late Friday afternoon, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) tried to get Senate Republicans to allow former Vice President Al Gore to stage a global warming concert on Capitol grounds. But Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) objected to Reid's request, and the resolution authorizing the concert, for now, remains stuck in the Rules and Administration Committee.

Don't worry Harry, whine enough and the Republicans will cave, works everytime. Hagel wants to Impeach HitlerBurton W. McChimpstein:

With his go-it-alone approach on Iraq, President Bush is flouting Congress and the public, so angering lawmakers that some consider impeachment an option over his war policy, a senator from Bush’s own party said Sunday.

Well, he's got Neil Young on his side....

More on Al or Moron Al,  probably more the latter:

Not only is his power bill 20 to 30 times higher than mine, he also opposes the elimination of toxic chemicals in Apple's
products:

As part of the Board of Directors for Apple Inc., Al Gore is in a unique position to help green the company. In fact, Greenpeace and 73 other groups have called on Gore to help make Apple an industry leader against the growing problem of electronic, or e-waste. So, when two shareholder proposals were recently introduced to Apple’s Board, calling for an elimination of toxic chemicals in Apple’s products, and a comprehensive take-back and recycling program, we were sure Al Gore would champion our cause.

We were wrong. According to Draft documents, the Board “unanimously” opposes both proposals, and is due to send out a statement recommending that stockholders vote against them both.

“It would be shocking if Vice President Gore opposed stronger environmental policies at Apple,” said Rick Hind, Legislative Director for the Greenpeace Toxics Campaign.  “If anyone can convince this company to be a leader on the environment, it’s Al Gore. The last thing he should be doing is opposing stronger policies on toxics and e-waste take-back,” he continued.

I guess the Apple Soy Milk Laptop 5000 is still a no go. Oh well, Al can buy Carbon Offsets from his own company and assuage his guilt, assuming he has any....if anybody needs the glass holding cell, it's "The Former Vice".

The Great Global Warming Swindle.

Surrender!!

Wanted: Dead or Dead:

Knut's fate grabbed global attention after an animal rights campaigner said hand-rearing polar bears was a violation of animal rights. German media interpreted his comments as a call for Knut to be put to sleep.

How compassionate. Look at it this way Mr. Animal Rights Campaigner, Knut could be sitting on one of your much ballyhooed icebergs, floating away to god knows where because Al Gore won't turn down his fucking thermostat...

Ah! Hope for the future... From the mouths of
babes:

LONGMONT — Humans don’t cause global warming, a jury of sixth graders at Trail Ridge Middle School concluded Thursday after hearing opposing arguments from their peers.

“They’re pretty young for this kind of thinking. They did great,” paleontology teacher Ken Poppe said after the 40-minute “trial” in his classroom.

With Earth’s warming accepted as a tenet, pre-teen “lawyers” and “scientists” debated whether humans have caused it.

Eleven jurors listened intently as prosecutors and defendants flashed contradictory graphs tracking global temperatures, carbon dioxide levels, polar ice cap statistics, volcanic activity and sea surface temperatures — all of which were found Wednesday in the school’s computer lab.

“The earth has warmed and cooled over many years. If it’s caused by CO2, why haven’t the charts shot up?” Poppe’s son and lead prosecutor Caleb argued during a rebuttal.

In a climax that sent half the class to its feet and forced the judge to call for order, opponent Monique Nem slapped a contradictory graph onto the prosecution’s table.

“We’ve proven you wrong! The CO2 levels have shot up,” she said.

The jury responded more warmly, however, to Caleb Poppe’s response: The graphic cited a Hawaiian source; Hawaii has volcanoes; volcanoes emit CO2. In closing arguments, Alexia Hegy said global temperatures actually decreased in the 1960’s, while the global population rose. Humans cannot be at fault, she concluded.

With the final word, defense attorney Sarah Steed countered: “It all comes back to us, the people — not the sun, not the weather. We need to turn off lights when we don’t need them. Bikes can work. The environment can be richer.” Seven of 11 jurors decided humans are not to blame, but everyone agreed classroom debates make for fun learning.

Too bad we can't have that kind of open debate in the Senate. From what I had time to glean from Gore's little self congratulatory puke fest the other day, it just seemed as though our esteemed politicians threw rose petals at Gore's feet and let him filibuster with nifty little soundbites such as "The debate on Warming is over" and other sundry silencing tactics.

The Year Without Toilet Paper

DINNER was the usual affair on Thursday night in Apartment 9F in an elegant prewar on Lower Fifth Avenue. There was shredded cabbage with fruit-scrap vinegar; mashed parsnips and yellow carrots with local butter and fresh thyme; a terrific frittata; then homemade yogurt with honey and thyme tea, eaten under the greenish flickering light cast by two beeswax candles and a fluorescent bulb.

A sour odor hovered oh-so-slightly in the air, the faint tang, not wholly unpleasant, that is the mark of the home composter. Isabella Beavan, age 2, staggered around the neo-Modern furniture — the Eames chairs, the brown velvet couch, the Lucite lamps and the steel cafe table upon which dinner was set — her silhouette greatly amplified by her organic cotton diapers in their enormous boiled-wool, snap-front cover.

A visitor avoided the bathroom because she knew she would find no toilet paper there.

Welcome to Walden Pond, Fifth Avenue style. Isabella’s parents, Colin Beavan, 43, a writer of historical nonfiction, and Michelle Conlin, 39, a senior writer at Business Week, are four months into a yearlong lifestyle experiment they call No Impact. Its rules are evolving, as Mr. Beavan will tell you, but to date include eating only food (organically) grown within a 250-mile radius of Manhattan; (mostly) no shopping for anything except said food; producing no trash (except compost, see above); using no paper; and, most intriguingly, using no carbon-fueled transportation.

Sounds as if they are laying the groundwork for the Glass Holding Cell. Unlike many on the Left regarding preservative talk show host Laura Ingraham's battle with breast cancer, I wish Mrs. Edwards the best in her efforts to combat the illness:

The Bush Hate Machine dashes the re-election hopes of Kathleen Blanco:

Gov. Kathleen Blanco, whose popularity plummeted after two hurricanes devastated Louisiana during her term, announced Tuesday that she will not seek re-election.

I thought Bush's Kyoto non-compliance was responsible for the Louisiana hurricanes. After all, Bobby F. K told us so...

One of Whitley Strieber's "Greys" to testify on the Hill regarding Global Warming:

Proposed questions for Gore:

Mr. Gore: You have said several times that we have 10 years to act to stave off global warming. Was that 10 years from the first time you said that or 10 years from now? We just wanted to get a firm date from you that we can hold you to.

Mr. Gore: How can you continue to claim that global warming on Earth is primarily caused by mankind when other planets Mars, Jupiter (actually, it's Triton as I recall) and Pluto with no confirmed life forms and certainly no man-made industrial greenhouse gas emissions also show signs of global warming? Wouldn’t it make more sense that the sun is responsible for warming since it is the common denominator?

Mr. Gore: Joseph Romm, the executive director for the Center for Energy and Climate Solutions, has said we must build 700 large nuclear plants to stave off climate change. Where do you stand on the need for nuclear energy?

Mr. Gore: Do you think the earth is significantly overpopulated and that is a major contributor to your view of climate change. (If yes, what do you think is a sustainable population for the planet?)

If we are  to rely only on Republican Senators to ask difficult questions of Albert, I'm won't be holding my breath... The Republican grilling of Gore will probably go more like this:

Republican Senator:  Mr. Gore? Are you comfortable? Would you like a mint?

Gore: No! I am not comfortable. Yes! I would love a mint. Garkon! Fetch Hither!

Republican Senator: My Republican Colleague s and I  would like to personally apologize for your discomfort. No further questions. A mint will be hand delivered directly to you by one of Mark Foley's pages, I yield my time to my friends on the other side of the aisle....

Just watch....maybe Democrat John Dingell will grill him. A republican sure as hell won't...I want to see Bjorn Lomborg go at him, that would be nice.

Cheney's victims moments after the deadly attack

Rosie Weighs in on 9/11:

Among her most "salient" points:

The fires in WTC 7 were not evenly distributed, so a perfect collapse was impossible.
• Silverstein said to the fire department commander “the smartest thing to do is pull it.”
• Firefighters withdrawing from the area stated the building was going to “blow up”.
• The roof of WTC 7 visibly crumbled and the building collapsed perfectly into its footprint.
• Molten steel and partially evaporated steel members were found in the debris.

Cheney seen with detonator, Bush spotted parachuting from the top floor of one of the Towers. Or was it one of  the planes? Android in Florida read "My Pet Goat" upside down to school children.

Filed under "Leftist Skates":

Byron York analyzes Valerie Plame's testimony before the House on Friday, and says it differs considerably from what the Senate discovered in their investigation. Inconsistencies abound and York chronicles just some of them.

During her testimony Friday before the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, former CIA employee Valerie Plame told how her husband, former ambassador Joseph Wilson, came to travel to Niger to investigate claims Iraq had tried to buy uranium there.
It started in February 2002, Mrs. Wilson testified. “A young junior officer who worked for me came to me very concerned, very upset. She had just received a telephone call on her desk from someone, I don’t know who, in the Office of the Vice President, asking about this report of this alleged sale of yellowcake uranium from Niger to Iraq.”It was not clear from Mrs. Wilson’s testimony why the junior officer was upset. But as the young officer told her story, Mrs. Wilson continued, an element of chance intruded. “As she was telling me what had just happened, someone passed by, another officer heard this. He knew that Joe had already — my husband — had already gone on some CIA missions previously to deal with other nuclear matters. And he suggested, ‘Well, why don’t we send Joe?’” That, Mrs. Wilson testified, was the beginning of her husband’s mission to Africa.

As Mrs. Wilson told her story, some members and staff of the Senate Intelligence Committee watched with great interest. (I bet they did, nudge, nudge) As part of its probe into pre-war intelligence, the committee interviewed Valerie Plame Wilson for the portions of the committee’s report dealing with the Niger uranium matter. At that time, as now, the question of how the CIA chose Joseph Wilson for the Niger trip was a subject of great interest. But Missouri Republican Sen. Christopher Bond, vice chairman of the committee, says Mrs. Wilson did not tell the committee about the young junior officer, the call from the vice president’s office, or the passing CIA official who suggested Joseph Wilson’s name.

“Friday was the first time we have ever heard that story,” Sen. Bond said in a statement to National Review Sunday evening. “Obviously if we had, we would have included it in the report. If Ms. Wilson’s memory of events has improved and she would now like to change her testimony, I’m sure the committee staff would be happy to re-interview her.”

Like Richard Clarke before her, so it goes....another episode of "As the StomachTurns"...

Unitarian Golfball Heads Freeze to Death During Global Warming
trek:

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. --As the world's warmest winter on record drew to an end with a weekend snow storm, a group of religious leaders started walking across the state Friday to bring attention to global warming.

"People have been asking me what happens if it snows," said the Rev. Fred Small of the First Church Unitarian in Littleton. "I tell them: 'we walk.'"

The nine-day haul from downtown Northampton to Copley Square in Boston was planned far before forecasts called for a weekend of snow and sleet just a few days before the start of spring.

"It was windy and cold. I was walking on the front of the line and I felt like I was bow of a ship with the wind just coming into my face," said the Rev. Margaret Bullitt-Jonas of the Grace Episcopal Church in Amherst, where the group warmed up on bowls of lentil and minestrone soup after walking eight miles in deep snow from Northampton to Amherst.

Gore's man-crush takes the fight to Israel:

Climate Expert Leonardo Di Caprio's Bodyguards Arrested in Scuffle Over Carbon Offsets in
Jerusalem.  Uh oh, we can't allow this to happen, we must have our Vietnam:

Early signs of progress in Baghdad crackdown. Bomb deaths decline by 30 percent, but U.S. remains cautious.

No wonder Land Spe culator Harry Reid has been foaming at the mouth to get the Troop Surge blocked. It might work. I wonder if he has a picture of Ronald Reagan in his office? It is after all a prerequisite for shady land or business deals...

BAGHDAD - Bomb deaths have gone down 30 percent in Baghdad since the U.S.-led security crackdown began a month ago. Execution-style slayings are down by nearly half.

The once frequent sound of weapons has been reduced to episodic, and downtown shoppers have returned to outdoor markets — favored targets of car bombers.

There are signs of progress in the campaign to restore order in Iraq, starting with its capital city.

But while many Iraqis are encouraged, they remain skeptical how long the relative calm will last. Each bombing renews fears that the horror is returning. Shiite militias and Sunni insurgents are still around, perhaps just lying low or hiding outside the city until the operation is over.

U.S. military officials, burned before by overly optimistic forecasts, have been cautious about declaring the operation a success. Another reason it seems premature: only two of the five U.S. brigades earmarked for the mission are in the streets, and the full complement of American reinforcements is not due until late May.U.S. officials say that key to the operation’s long-term success is the willingness of Iraq’s sectarian and ethnic political parties to strike a power- and money-sharing deal. That remains elusive — a proposal for governing the country’s main source of income — oil — is bogged down in parliamentary squabbling.

Meanwhile, in another blow to the Dick Durbin, Hank Reid lose at any cost contingent, a poll among Iraqis indicates that a majority of them believe life is better for them now than it was under Saddam:

MOST Iraqis believe life is better for them now than it was under Saddam Hussein, according to a British opinion poll published today.

The survey of more than 5,000 Iraqis found the majority optimistic despite their suffering in sectarian violence since the American-led invasion four years ago this week.

One in four Iraqis has had a family member murdered, says the poll by Opinion Research Business. In Baghdad, the capital, one in four has had a relative kidnapped and one in three said members of their family had fled abroad. But when asked whether they preferred life under Saddam, the dictator who was executed last December, or under Nouri al-Maliki, the prime minister, most replied that things were better for them today.

Only 27% think there is a civil war in Iraq, compared with 61% who do not, according to the survey carried out last month.

Obviously The London Times is a stooge for FOX News.  A big setback for our heroes Durbin unt Reid...

Break out the Carbon Neutral Butt Plugs!!

Climate Deniers Receive Death
Threats:

Scientists who questioned mankind's impact on climate change have received death threats and claim to have been shunned by the scientific community.

They say the debate on global warming has been "hijacked" by a powerful alliance of politicians, scientists and environmentalists who have stifled all questioning about the true environmental impact of carbon dioxide emissions.

Timothy Ball, a former climatology professor at the University of Winnipeg in Canada, has received five deaths threats by email since raising concerns about the degree to which man was affecting climate change.

One of the emails warned that, if he continued to speak out, he would not live to see further global warming.

"Western governments have pumped billions of dollars into careers and institutes and they feel threatened," said the professor.

"I can tolerate being called a sceptic because all scientists should be sceptics, but then they started calling us deniers, with all the connotations of the Holocaust. That is an obscenity. It has got really nasty and personal."

Richard Lindzen, the professor of Atmospheric Science at Massachusetts Institute of Technology - who also appeared on the documentary - recently claimed: "Scientists who dissent from the alarmism have seen their funds disappear, their work derided, and themselves labelled as industry stooges.

"Consequently, lies about climate change gain credence even when they fly in the face of the science."

Dr Myles Allen, from Oxford University, agreed. He said: "The Green movement has hijacked the issue of climate change. It is ludicrous to suggest the only way to deal with the problem is to start micro managing everyone, which is what environmentalists seem to want to do."

"Back to your Glass Holding Cell, you've exceeded your Carbon Footprint for the day"!

Nigel Calder, a former editor of New Scientist, said: "Governments are trying to achieve unanimity by stifling any scientist who disagrees. Einstein could not have got funding under the present system."

Global Cooling Pounds Phoenix:

PHOENIX -- For the fourth consecutive day, Phoenix roasted in record high temperatures.

It was 99 degrees Saturday, breaking the old record for the date of 92 degrees set in 1972.

Note that the previous record of 92 degrees was set back in the '70s when the prevailing theory amongst Gorelike alarmists at the first Earth Day Festivals was that we were going to plunge the Earth into another Ice Age with our wanton industrial practices and Ronald Reagan photos. To coin a phrase from my favorite Vulcan: Fascinating...

It was also 99 degrees on Friday, which shattered the old record of 95 set in 1921.

Prescott Bush was behind the 1921 debacle, I saw it on the History Channel...

Nothing to fear: Part two.
03.13.07 (7:54 am)   [edit]

I’m not sure what grade I was in when I first heard of the imminent threat of over-population; but, I remember that I spent a great deal of time worrying about the fact that in a very short time there would be no place for people to live and we were all going to starve to death. Then we drove to the Canadian wilderness and it struck me—what are they talking about?

Global warming is just the latest in a series of prophecies and predictions on the demise of the planet earth.

Before the over-population scare they had children hiding under desks to save them from nuclear holocaust—like that was going to help. There was the 1975 threat of Global cooling (http://www.numberwatch.co.uk/...), the danger of acid rain where our rivers and streams would all be poison and our hair would fall out from eating fish, the 1997 Doomsday Asteroid scare and of course, the ever popular warning of impending nuclear winter.

There were the shark scares, when the truth of the matter was that 15x more swimmers were killed each year by falling coconuts than by sharks, there was Ebola—the virus that would eat your flesh, the electrical wires and cancer scare, the cell phone and cancer scare, and the grilled meat and cancer scare.

And don’t forget the KILLER BEES which sent children and adults alike screaming into the house at the sight of a sweat bee.

In the late 80s came the Asbestos scare where despite the fact that in most schools asbestos levels were extremely low (less than the amount that in 10 years of exposure might cause one additional death in 100,000 over a lifetime -- one-third the risk of being struck by lightning), by 1990 some $6 billion had been spent on asbestos abatement in schools. Many experts believe that asbestos removal, which increased airborne asbestos, created a far greater hazard to the children, who might have benefited far more had this money been spent on enhancing their education. (NY Times).

Last but not least, let’s pay homage to the deadly SARS outbreak which had in April of 2003 claimed slightly over 100 deaths WORLDWIDE. Yet, here are just a few of the headlines from that time:
SARS claims 116 as lethal virus spreads, How a killer was unmasked, Gloom is contagious, China raises SARS death toll to 55, Killer virus here to stay, say experts, Beijing urged to come clean on extent of infection, Australia's only SARS case 'false alarm', Cockroaches linked to virus outbreak, SARS fear in US Chinatown neighbourhoods, Disease hunters like rock stars in China and World Bank chief warns of SARS fallout.

Even if all of these dire predictions had a grain of truth to them, why do politicians and the media—the great protectors of children-- feel it necessary to make them prisoners to fear? As parents, we try and protect children from losing their innocence too quickly. There are certain things we don’t share with them; our worry that dad might lose his job or the fact that the checking account is nearly empty . Yet, we allow the schools to frighten them unnecessarily with visions of starvation, poison rivers, floods and dying polar bears. Children cannot affect change so the only thing left for them to do is to become fearful and anxious.

The headline of my 3rd grade nephew’s Weekly Reader was: “Unhappy Feet: Over-fishing and melting ice spell trouble for penguins”. The article went on to say that global warming is caused by driving cars and using electricity. Translated to a 3rd grader: every time mommy drives me to school or I watch television, somewhere in the world a penguin is dying.

So just what is the purpose behind bombarding them with these images and scenarios of destruction?

It is obvious why the media has a stake in the concept of a fearful public. It keeps viewers coming back and it keeps their industry viable. For instance, the Center for Media and public Affairs reported that during the 1990s the homicide rate in the U.S. dropped 50 percent, yet homicide news coverage increased by an incredible 700 percent. Stories involving murder, shark attack, road rage, and carjacking are cited as examples of reporting that was skewed by the overuse of frightening headlines and images, incomplete research, and the tacit rule "If it bleeds, it leads."

It is equally as obvious why politicians continue to indoctrinate with fear.

There is power in causing someone to be fearful. It puts people at the mercy of someone who has the apparent power to prevent this terrible thing from happening. It is how for hundreds of years people in power have lorded it over others. The church kept people under control using the fear of eternal damnation while communism utilized the fear of retribution and death.

By painting the picture that regardless of the problem-- the answer is Government--Liberals have a captive audience. Ultimately, fear is just another way to hold people captive. Self-sufficiency renders the notion of Liberalism irrelevant and by indoctrinating our children with the belief that they cannot survive without the help and influence of government they have an entire generation of potential voters.

Even people who believe in the concept of man-made global warming agree that man is only responsible for a small percentage of the earth’s greenhouse gas. These percentages are dwarfed by natural causes over which we have no control. Yet we show Al Gore’s movie in our schools—present it as fact-- and a new generation of children are captive to the fear of something over which they are powerless-- as if they don’t have enough to worry about.

Remember to recycle that bottle little Jimmy—or you, mommy, daddy and the cute little penguins are going to be incinerated by the sun.

That is not just irresponsible it’s criminal.

Nothing to fear: Part One.
03.12.07 (10:35 am)   [edit]

Ottomanprang: Thank you for asking me to fill in. Hope you are relaxing and I'll do my best.  This is something I wrote earlier and wouldn't have used it here except it is a segue for a follow-up piece I'm working on about why Liberals want to scare our children.  I will post it as soon as I'm finished.  In the meantime, here is part one.

I’ve begun to believe that the gears that keep American society turning are powered by unnecessary and often exaggerated fear. I blame this on two things: the media and our own inability to tolerate set-backs.

I think that the media has managed to virtually cripple our society by concentrating on the negative and creating the impression that it is somehow possible for the world to be a fair place. It has created a nation of victims.

There have always been natural disasters, fatal illnesses, economic uncertainties, murder and mayhem. What has changed is the media has gone from reporting the story to trying to make the story.

Prior to radio, television and the internet, news traveled slowly. Tornadoes came and went, women died from childbirth, the family farm went into foreclosure. People expected that life was uncertain and they dealt with it. They made decisions on how to move forward, picked themselves up, brushed themselves off and did the best they could. Now, the story is not over until there is someone to blame…or better yet, someone to sue.

That’s why our kids can’t play on the playground at recess, obstetricians are opting out because they can’t guarantee a healthy baby, and McDonald’s serves lukewarm coffee. Our society cannot function without people warning us of every possible pitfall…and if there is not something to be frightened of at the moment… they’ll dig until they find it.

There is not always a cause, a culprit or a cure for what happens in our universe, but, that is not good enough for the liberal media.

The constant barrage of news has taught us to live in fear of the unforeseen ‘what ifs’. What if I lose my job? What if there is a hurricane and the government doesn’t bail me out? What if there is an epidemic and we don’t have a vaccine? Our sense of security is stripped away not by the fact that disaster might befall us—but, by the fact that someone else is in control of our destiny if it does.

By saturating us with a constant influx of bad news and impending disasters, and by encouraging a victim mentality, the media has stripped us of the self-sufficiency that is our reassurance in difficult times. The result of that is fearfulness and uncertainty.

I rarely watch the news. I like to assume that the world is a better place than they would have us believe. If I see someone hurting, I try and help. If I could end wars and world hunger, I would do it in a heartbeat. The hard and sad truth is that, usually the things that change people’s lives rarely make the news—whether that’s here in Michigan or in some remote village in Africa. Their celebrations and tragedies are for the most part confined to their little corner of the world and they learn to make the best of it…it’s not pretty…it just is. We live and we die. It is how the world has always worked…even before CNN.

Sniveling little rat faced git, Bill Maher's Voodoo Doll appears to be working:

Dick Cheney has been diagnosed with a blood clot in his left leg, leading to speculation he will be forced to resign as U.S. Vice-President. The 66-year-old has a history of major health problems, including four heart attacks, and has undergone quadruple-bypass surgery.

He is a driving force in both the war in Iraq and the 'war on terror' and his resignation would be a huge loss to George Bush. The vice-president is the leader of Washington's neo-conservatives (ooh, I hear the distant chuff, chuff of Black Helicopter propellor s) and is believed to be a dominant influence on Mr Bush's military and foreign policies.

He is also believed to be the president's closest political friend.

If Cheney runs down the curtain and joins the choir invisible his blood (at least the clot anyway) will be on Maher's hands...

Jesus Reporting by Edwards:

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) -- Democratic presidential hopeful John Edwards says Jesus would be appalled at how the United States has ignored the plight of the suffering, and that he believes children should have private time to pray at school. Edwards, in an interview with the Web site Beliefnet.com, said Jesus would be most upset with the selfishness of Americans and the country's willingness to go to war "when it's not necessary." "I think that Jesus would be disappointed in our ignoring the plight of those around us who are suffering and our focus on our own selfish short-term needs," Edwards told the site. "I think he would be appalled, actually."

One could sure fit a lot of "The Suffering" in his 1,000 room mansion, it's probably got quite a few kitchens...and servants. Be good to everyone! Sorry, I couldn't resist. One could probably blame Climate Change for this as well:

An off-duty Northwest Airlines employee was arrested after a woman on a flight from Seattle complained that the man had ejaculated on her.The FBI identified the man as Samuel Oscar Gonzalez, 20, of Lakewood, Wash. He was charged in federal court with simple assault, a misdemeanor. It happened on the redeye Monday morning from Seattle to Minneapolis. The woman was headed back to college.

Near the end of the flight, the FBI said Gonzalez sat next to the woman as she was trying to sleep. He touched her, which she described as spooning, lifted her shirt and then got up and left. Court documents said she felt a warm fluid on her back, clothes and seat after he walked away. She told the officers he had ejaculated on her.

CIA: FRESH LEADS IN HUNT FOR BIN LADEN...

Armed with fresh intelligence, the CIA is moving additional man power and equipment into Pakistan in the effort to find Osama bin Laden and his deputy Ayman al Zawahri, U.S. officials tell ABC News.

"Reports that the trail has gone stone cold are not correct," said one U.S. official.  "We are very much increasing our efforts there," the official said.

People familiar with the CIA operation say undercover officers with paramilitary training have been ordered into Pakistan and the area across the border with Afghanistan as part of the ramp-up.

...let's just give the guy a big ol' heads up shall we? Global Warming pounds Toronto:

If you thought February was particularly cold, you were right. Frigid conditions made the month the coldest February in 28 years, according to Environment Canada’s senior climatologist David Phillips. Not since 1979 has February dished up such bone-rattling conditions.

Texas DJ Suspended for saying basically the same thing Joe Biden did as regards Barack Obama:

*A disc jockey in Austin, Texas was suspended Thursday after he attempted to joke about the recent politically incorrect comments made by Sen. Joe Biden about Sen. Barack Obama.   In January, Biden, D-Del., said that one of Obama's political attributes is that he is "clean." Host Bob Cole of KVET’s “Sam and Bob in the Morning” show reminded listeners Thursday that Biden had used the racially-insensitive word to describe Obama. "He's clean is what what's-his-name said. Joe Biden told us that," Cole said. "Clean darky," quipped host Sam Allred. Cole immediately exclaimed, "Sammy!" The show then cut to commercial. After the break Allred said: "See, I was making fun of politicians who say things like that." The local NAACP chapter didn’t see it that way. They plan to file a complaint over the remark, and are calling for Allred to apologize publicly.

"That kind of ignorance has no place in this country in 2007," Nelson Linder of the NAACP told KXAN TV. "When a black man runs for president, we ought to be proud of that."

Agreed, and somebody needs to tell Joe Biden that.

Global Warming ravaged world...

OTTAWA (AFP) - A former Canadian defense minister is demanding governments worldwide disclose and use secret alien technologies obtained in alleged UFO crashes to stem climate change, a local paper said Wednesday.

I would like to see what (alien) technology there might be that could eliminate the burning of fossil fuels within a generation ... that could be a way to save our planet," Paul Hellyer, 83, told the Ottawa Citizen.

Alien spacecrafts would have traveled vast distances to reach Earth, and so must be equipped with advanced propulsion systems or used exceptional fuels, he told the newspaper.

Simultaneous warming on Earth and Mars suggests that our planet's recent climate changes have a natural—and not a human- induced—cause, according to one scientist's controversial theory.

Controversial? Why??

Earth is currently experiencing rapid warming, which the vast majority of climate scientists says is due to humans pumping huge amounts of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.

Mars, too, appears to be enjoying more mild and balmy temperatures.

In 2005 data from NASA's Mars Global Surveyor and Odyssey missions revealed that the carbon dioxide "ice caps" near Mars's south pole had been diminishing for three summers in a row.

Habibullo Abdussamatov, head of the St. Petersburg's Pulkovo Astronomical Observatory in Russia, says the Mars data is evidence that the current global warming on Earth is being caused by changes in the sun.

"The long-term increase in solar irradiance is heating both Earth and Mars," he said.

Solar Cycles

Abdussamatov believes that changes in the sun's heat output can account for almost all the climate changes we see on both planets.

Mars and Earth, for instance, have experienced periodic ice ages throughout their histories.

"Man-made greenhouse warming has made a small contribution to the warming seen on Earth in recent years, but it cannot compete with the increase in solar irradiance," Abdussamatov said.

By studying fluctuations in the warmth of the sun, Abdussamatov believes he can see a pattern that fits with the ups and downs in climate we see on Earth and Mars.

Abdussamatov's work, however, has not been well received by other climate scientists.

...well, of course not, he's just trodden all over the prevailing pet theory amongst the Gore / Dicaprio contingent. Anyone who can't see the sun's role in determining our climate......

Killer Tornadoes linked to Climate
Change:

The tornadoes that tore across the south-eastern US on Thursday, killing at least 19 people, were devastating but not unprecedented, say tornado experts. However, the twisters did strike unusually early in the year.

The tornado season in the US normally reaches its peak between mid-April and June. The tornadoes tend to get stronger as the year progresses because warming temperatures increase the amount of energy in the atmosphere.

"Early March is a bit early for a severe tornado," says Nigel Bolton, national forecaster at the UK Met Office and member of the UK-based Tornado and Storm Research Organisation (TORRO). But he notes that such events have happened before this early in the year, when the key atmospheric circumstances combine.

In this case, the extremely cold US was probably a contributing factor. Tornadoes in the US form when a front of dry, cold air descending from the north meets warm, moist air coming up from the south. Sometimes, a body of the cold air slides over the top of the warm air, trapping it underneath.

This creates unstable atmospheric conditions, and if there is enough energy in the system, the warm air will punch through the denser cold air above, triggering thunderstorms. The next step required is for the winds to be changing their speed and direction with altitude. "If there's enough rotation you get a tornado," says Bolton (see graphic).

Perfect conditions

Bolton says a depression has indeed been drawing the cold northern air down across the southern US. At the same time, the anticlockwise motion of the depression drew warm, moist air in from the Florida coast.

Furthermore, the temperatures in Alabama on Thursday were above 20°C, with high levels of humidity. All this will have created the right conditions for the tornado, Bolton says.

There have already been several killer tornadoes in the US in 2007, though none as strong as the F4-level tornado that hit Enterprise, Alabama on Thursday. According to the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, two F3 tornadoes hit Florida in February, killing 20 people between them.

Climate change

There is no evidence that the world's warming climate is leading to an increase in tornadoes, says Terence Meaden, deputy head of TORRO.

"Higher average temperatures mean the air is able to contain more water vapour, which increases the tendency towards more severe thunderstorms, and more severe thunderstorms tend to produce tornadoes," he says. "But are the small average temperature increases that we're seeing across the planet having any influence on tornadoes? I don't know."

More tornadoes are being reported each year, but both Meaden and Bolton say it is impossible to say whether that is simply because people are more aware of tornadoes and have more cameras to document them.

According to Bolton, an early severe tornado also does not bear any relationship as to how many there will be later in the season. Some years, a very active start is followed by a quiet period, while in other years the pattern is reversed.

For a report on the damage caused by Thursday's tornadoes, see Tornadoes wreak havoc across US and NOAA's map of the twisters.

Interesting Contrast:

Oscar winning Eco-fundy Albert Arnold Gore's Opulent Excess:

The Tennessee Center for Policy Research, an independent, nonprofit and nonpartisan research organization, issued a press release late Monday:

Last night, Al Gore’s global-warming documentary, An Inconvenient Truth, collected an Oscar for best documentary feature, but the Tennessee Center for Policy Research has found that Gore deserves a gold statue for hypocrisy.

Gore’s mansion, [20-room, eight-bathroom] located in the posh Belle Meade area of Nashville, consumes more electricity every month than the average American household uses in an entire year, according to the Nashville Electric Service (NES).

In his documentary, the former Vice President calls on Americans to conserve energy by reducing electricity consumption at home.

The average household in America consumes 10,656 kilowatt-hours (kWh) per year, according to the Department of Energy. In 2006, Gore devoured nearly 221,000 kWh—more than 20 times the national average.

Last August alone, Gore burned through 22,619 kWh—guzzling more than twice the electricity in one month than an average American family uses in an entire year.

As a result of his energy consumption, Gore’s average monthly electric bill topped $1,359.

Since the release of An Inconvenient Truth, Gore’s energy consumption has increased from an average of 16,200 kWh per month in 2005, to 18,400 kWh per month in 2006.

Gore’s extravagant energy use does not stop at his electric bill. Natural gas bills for Gore’s mansion and guest house averaged $1,080 per month last year.

“As the spokesman of choice for the global warming movement, Al Gore has to be willing to walk to walk, not just talk the talk, when it comes to home energy use,” said Tennessee Center for Policy Research President Drew Johnson.

In total, Gore paid nearly $30,000 in combined electricity and natural gas bills for his Nashville estate in 2006.

Eco-rapist, plunderer, oil baron, Hitler Burton W. McChimpstein's Southern Reich Chancellory:

Is it possible that George Bush is a secret Green? Evidently his Crawford Winter White House has 25,000 gallons of rainwater storage, gray water collection from sinks and showers for irrigation, passive solar, geothermal heating and cooling. “By marketplace standards, the house is startlingly small,” says David Heymann, the architect of the 4,000-square-foot home. "Clients of similar ilk are building 16-to-20,000-square-foot houses." Furthermore for thermal mass the walls are clad in "discards of a local stone called Leuders limestone, which is quarried in the area. The 12-to-18-inch-thick stone has a mix of colors on the top and bottom, with a cream-colored center that most people want. “They cut the top and bottom of it off because nobody really wants it,” Heymann says. “So we bought all this throwaway stone. It’s fabulous. It’s got great color and it is relatively inexpensive.”

'Nuff said. I wonder what little Bobby F. K's house is like? We know the Kennedys don't like windmills.

Rise of the Nanny State:

Climate expert Prince Charles want to ban the Big Mac...

Prince Charles today said banning McDonald's fast food was the key to a healthy lifestyle.

His comments came as he attended the launch of a public health awareness campaign. Charles, a strong advocate of organic food, was touring the Imperial College London Diabetes Centre in Abu Dhabi with the Duchess of Cornwall. He asked nutritionist Nadine Tayara: "Have you got anywhere with McDonald's, have you tried getting it banned? That's the key."

It would be interesting to micro analyze His Majesty's diet for the " Do as I say, not as I do Gorelike Hypocrisy Syndrome". Maybe McDonalds can start selling Carbon Offsets.

Bush's reluctance to sign Kyoto comes home to
roost:

Tornadoes have killed at least 20 people in the southern US states of Alabama, Georgia and Missouri. Victims included at least eight people killed when a tornado ripped through an Alabama school building, and two dead when a hospital was hit in Georgia. The US federal government has said it is ready to help any areas affected by the storms.

Residents dig themselves out from under Chimpstein's wrath

BDS:

Groan...What are these fucking clowns going to do when Bush leaves
office?

Warner Bros. is developing a feature on the lives of Valerie Plame and Ambassador Joseph Wilson, the married couple drawn into a D.C. firestorm.
Plame's status as a CIA agent was revealed by White House officials allegedly out to discredit her husband after he wrote a 2003 New York Times op-ed piece saying that the Bush administration had manipulated intelligence about weapons of mass destruction to justify the invasion of Iraq.

Joseph Wilson, Valerie Plame

My point is buttressed by today's
Quote of the Day from the London Times:

"Oh George, what will we do when you’re gone?"
- "Somewhere, deep down, tucked away underneath their loathing for George Bush, in a secret place where the lights of smart dinner-party conversation and clever debating-society repartee never shine, the growing hordes of America-bashers must dread the moment he leaves office.

When President Bush goes into the Texas sunset, and especially if he is replaced by an enlightened, world-embracing Democrat, their one excuse, their sole explanation for all human suffering in the world will disappear too. And they may just find that the world is not as simple as they thought it was." (Gerard Baker, London Times)

I don't know, I still hear some of my liberal friends whine about Reagan, they can milk it for a very long time believe me....

The honorable Senate Committe will probably come to the conclusion that Bush is Killing Mars:

Global Warming on Mars & Cosmic Ray Research Are Shattering Media Driven "Consensus’

Two new developments in climate science are rocking the media driven "consensus" on global warming. National Geographic has an article from February 28, 2007 entitled, "Mars Melt Hints at Solar, Not Human, Cause for Warming, Scientist Says," and a February 26, 2007 release from the Danish National Space Center announced "A new theory of climate change", detailing the "remarkable results of research on cosmic rays and climate." (See also: Climate Skeptics Vindicated as Growing Number of Scientists & Politicians Oppose Alarmism & Panel of Broadcast Meteorologists Reject Man-Made Global Warming Fears- Claim 95% of Weathermen Skeptical )

According to National Geographic: "Habibullo Abdussamatov, head of the St. Petersburg's Pulkovo Astronomical Observatory in Russia, says the Mars data is evidence that the current global warming on Earth is being caused by changes in the sun.

‘The long-term increase in solar irradiance is heating both Earth and Mars,’ Abdussamatov said."

This scientific research regarding Mars and the Sun, follows another new study about the impact of cosmic rays on the Earth’s climate. A release from the Danish National Space Center details the latest research from scientists from Denmark, Canada and Israel.

I cannot for the life of me figure out how the Sun could possibly impact our climate, it just doesn't make sense.. Weather Channel Diva and arbiter of all that is, Heidi Cullen needs to have these people arrested and stripped of their credentials...
