From the dim, distant cavelike recesses of the "No Shit Department": At a time when the Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS) is censuring free market organizations for accepting donations from ExxonMobil, critics have turned the spotlight back onto the UCS, its left-wing positions, and its own funding practices.
In a recent report, the UCS charged that organizations are using oil industry money to create public uncertainty about what it calls "consensus" about climate change and the role of human activity in affecting temperatures see related story. Organizations named in the report have denied the claims.
The UCS describes itself as an "alliance" of over 200,000 citizens and scientists that initially came together in 1969. It integrates "independent scientific research" with "citizen action" for the purpose of developing and implementing "changes to government policy, corporate practices and consumer choices."
But critics say it is an openly political group.
According to James Dellinger, executive director of Greenwatch - a project of the Capital Research Center - the UCS has a long financial association with elements that have a "partisan view of science."
David Martosko, executive director of ActivistCash.com - a division of the Center for Consumer Freedom - agrees. He told Cybercast News Service the UCS would be "more aptly named the Union of Pro-Regulation, Anti-Business Scientists."
As I recall, all you have to do to belong to the Union of Concerned Scientists is send them $15.00 and wa lah (or viola) you're a "Concerned Scientist". Sure saves on college tuition. HitlerBurton's Speech:
BUSH BEATS 'IDOL'
STATE OF UNION SPEECH PULLS 6.7 RATING/10 SHARE FOR FOX-TV, TOPS NBC'S 6.6 RATING/10 SHARE, 5.7/8 CBS; ABC LAST PLACE AT 5.0/7... MORE... TOTAL BIG 4 'STATE' 24.0 RATING/35 SHARE OVER 'IDOL' 19.0 RATING/28 SHARE ON FOX... DEVELOPING...
I didn't hear HitlerBurton's rallying cry however I did catch the Democratic response and it appears Boortz and I had very similar reactions: The Democratic response to the president's speech last night sure was a real knee-slapper. Now the Left is suddenly worried about Islamic terrorism, concerned about our troops and doing the political backstroke on their surrender plan for Iraq. And Jim Webb was the stooge to deliver it all. Who ever thought the former Secretary of the Navy during the Reagan Administration would be carrying water for Nancy Pelosi?
Webb whined about how the economy really isn't that good. He launched into his class warfare routine, complaining about how corporate CEO's make 400 times the money regular workers do. It really is a tired act. Funny how the economy is doing better than it was 10 years ago, but when Clinton was in office, the Democrats and the media declared it an economic boom. The Big Lie continues.
Then there was the laughable line about how the president took us to war in Iraq recklessly. Really? Were Hillary Clinton and John Kerry reckless when they voted for the war in Iraq? Somehow that little fact seems to escape critics of the war. The Democrats want the war to end ... OK, we get it. But what is their plan for dealing with the violence that will only escalate if we withdraw now? Just sit back and watch it?
Mahmoud: America must die! Oh, and Israel too...
Israel and the United States will soon be destroyed, Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Tuesday during a meeting with Syria's foreign minister, the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting said in a report."Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad… assured that the United States and the Zionist regime of Israel will soon come to the end of their lives," the Iranian president was quoted as saying.
Good thing Iran is engaged in the peaceful production of nucular energy or we'd really be in trouble..
Are you a "Global Warming Skeptic"? Turn yourself in:
Political commentator Henry Louis Mencken (1880-1956) warned that "The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed – and hence clamorous to be led to safety – by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary." The Weather Channel has taken up that task with its series "It Could Happen Tomorrow." The Weather Channel started its "It Could Happen Tomorrow" series in January 2006. The program includes episodes where a tornado destroys Dallas, a tsunami destroys the Pacific Northwest, Mount Rainier erupts and destroys nearby towns, and San Diego is devastated by wildfires. They omitted a program showing a meteor striking my house, for it, too, could happen tomorrow. Of course, any one of these events could happen tomorrow, but I'm reminded of a passage in Shakespeare's "Macbeth," where after Macbeth listens to the predictions of the witches, Banquo warns him that "Oftentimes, to win us to our harm, the instruments of darkness tell us truths, win us with honest trifles, to betray us in deepest consequence." That is, gain our confidence with trifle truths to set us up for the big lie. The big lie, conceived by the Weather Channel in cahoots with environmental extremists, is to get us in a tizzy over global warming, and they're vicious about it. Heidi Cullen, Ph.D., the Weather Channel's climatologist, hosts a weekly program called "The Climate Code." Dr. Cullen advocates that the American Meteorological Society strip their seal of approval from any TV weatherman expressing skepticism about the predictions of manmade global warming, according to a report by Marc Morano, communications director for the U.S. Senate Committee on Environment & Public Works. Dr. Cullen has had a lot of help in demonizing skeptics of catastrophic manmade global warming. Scott Pelley, CBS News "60 Minutes" correspondent, compared skeptics of global warming to "Holocaust deniers," and former Vice President Al Gore calls skeptics "global warming deniers." But it gets worse. Mr. Morano reports that on one of Dr. Cullen's shows, she featured columnist Dave Roberts, who, in his Sept. 19, 2006, online publication, said, "When we've finally gotten serious about global warming, when the impacts are really hitting us and we're in a full worldwide scramble to minimize the damage, we should have war crimes trials for these bastards – some sort of climate Nuremberg." (See the Morano report.) He didn't say whether the death penalty should be administered to those found guilty of global warming denial. Global Warming will tighten it's merciless grip on America:
Weather forecasts released Thursday suggested that the cold weather expected to hit the U.S. Midwest between Jan. 28 and Feb. 1 will now persist longer than previously expected. One model run by meteorologists at MDA's EarthSat Weather Group in Rockville, Md., forecasts "the coldest outbreak in years" for large parts of the U.S. between Feb. 2-6.
I know, this is starting to look like the "Skeptic of the Environmental Apocolypse Page" but oh well. If only R.F.K. Jr. will save us I can get off this menacing topic.... I.Lewis "Scooter" Libby must die!! Nail his milky, white forehead to the floor!!! One bazillion Chinese can't be wrong:
BEIJING - China is on pace to surpass the United States within two years as the nation with the most Internet users, the government and news reports said Wednesday. China's online population grew by 23.4 percent last year to 137 million people, about 10 percent of its 1.3 billion population, the China Internet Network Information Center reported on its Web site.
Time to invade China...This Day in History...Global Warming causes worst earthquake in history... enveloping... Drats!! Swiftboated again!!

Hope you don't have kids. Sometimes, ya know, just after we lefties are suddenly concerned by something you folks have known about for some time, like the threat of terrorism, which, frankly I hadn't even heard of till the Democratic response to the SOTU address the other night, we read fairy tales about stuff that irrefutably shows how fucked up the climate changes have been over the past twenty years, but then we fall asleep soundly after being reminded by brilliant folks like you who say it's all foolishness. And the rationale is so reassuring as well... "critics say...." "some pundit's claim..." "Al Gore said it so we know it's false"
As I said... Hope you people don't breed.
Just for fun, look at some sat photos of Antarctica from, say, twenty years ago, ten, five and last year... Ask Rush to explain it. He'll say, "Many scientists don't believe it's a problem.... Then he'll quote non-scientists who've written articles about the subject using HIM or folks just like him as a "source."
A hundred and ten years ago, you'd have been in the camp who knew for a fact that automobiles would never catch on, and forty years ago, you'd have made jokes about the idea of people having computers in their homes... after all, there were EXACTLY the same kind of articles and derisive tripe you post about these new subjects, and from the same sort of shortsighted goof-balls. (Go back and look at some old publications - they're full of sarcastic opinion articles like you post... Easy to find.) Thankfully, like them, your lack of thinking become largely irrelevant. You'd have been one who thought Eisenhower's huge Federal Highway program was tantamount to totalitarianism and would wreck the country. "Cant have the fed's involved... blah, blah, blah."
Your sort doesn't really DO anything do you? It's all poorly written self- referencing shit you copy and post from one web-site to the next then use each other as "proof" of your own "right" thinking.
Keep thinking that I'll come here just once and see something well thought out and thoughtfully presented.
Maybe someday.
