Panel of Climate Scientists conclude...we've got 10 years:

A NEW worldwide movement backed by celebrities, musicians, politicians and business leaders is aiming to reverse the effects of global warming over the next decade.

Global Cool launched in London and LA today and is calling on one billion people to reduce their carbon emissions by just one tonne a year, for the next 10 years.

Big names including Leonardo Di Caprio, Orlando Bloom, KT Tunstall, Pink, The Killers, Razorlight and Josh Hartnett have thrown their weight behind the worldwide effort to beat climate change.

Ok, I'm convinced, I'm on board now, I was waiting for Leonardo Di Caprio and Pink to weigh in before I made my final decision. Time to start burning books: Four scientists (ok, two scientists, an economist and a science writer) have the unmitigated gall to suggest that Global Warming may be part of a naturally occuring cyclical phenomonon and they were actually allowed to write a book:

Two powerful new books say today's global warming is due not to human activity but primarily to a long, moderate solar-linked cycle. Unstoppable Global Warming Every 1500 Years, by physicist Fred Singer and economist Dennis Avery was released just before Christmas. The Chilling Stars: A New Theory of Climate Change, by Danish physicist Henrik Svensmark and former BBC science writer Nigel Calder (Icon Books), is due out in March.

Singer and Avery note that most of the earth's recent warming occurred before 1940, and thus before much human-emitted CO2. Moreover, physical evidence shows 600 moderate warmings in the earth's last million years. The evidence ranges from ancient Nile flood records, Chinese court documents and Roman wine grapes to modern spectral analysis of polar ice cores, deep seabed sediments, and layered cave stalagmites.

Unstoppable Global Warming shows the earth's temperatures following variations in solar intensity through centuries of sunspot records, and finds cycles of sun-linked isotopes in ice and tree rings. The book cites the work of Svensmark, who says cosmic rays vary the earth's temperatures by creating more or fewer of the low, wet clouds that cool the earth. It notes that global climate models can't accurately register cloud effects.

The Chilling Stars relates how Svensmark's team mimicked the chemistry of earth's atmosphere, by putting realistic mixtures of atmospheric gases into a large reaction chamber, with ultraviolet light as a stand-in for the sun. When they turned on the UV, microscopic droplets cloud seeds started floating through the chamber.

We were amazed by the speed and efficiency with which the electrons [generated by cosmic rays] do their work of creating the building blocks for the cloud condensation nuclei, says Svensmark.

The Chilling Stars documents how cosmic rays amplify small changes in the sun's irradiance fourfold, creating 1-2 degree C cycles in earth's temperatures: Cosmic rays continually slam into the earth's atmosphere from outer space, creating ion clusters that become seeds for small droplets of water and sulfuric acid. The droplets then form the low, wet clouds that reflect solar energy back into space. When the sun is more active, it shields the earth from some of the rays, clouds wane, and the planet warms.Unstoppable Global Warming documents the reality of a moderate, natural, 1500-year climate cycle on the earth. The Chilling Stars explains the why and how.

Not fair, they're using science.... This will definitely help the cause as well. Good God, a Canadian said this?

Prime Minister Stephen Harper once called the Kyoto accord a "socialist scheme" designed to suck money out of rich countries, according to a letter leaked Tuesday by the Liberals.

Arrest him. They can do that in Canada. The NFL is doing it's part to combat this as well:

The National Football League is hoping to tackle the game's heat-trapping gas emissions by planting 3,000 mangroves and other trees native to Florida, but the plan could be more of an incomplete pass than a touchdown when it comes to global warming, experts said.

I'm so filled with hate. Just an observation: I remember when Clinton was President and the economy grew at 3.5% it was hailed as the greatest accomplishment since the Theory of Relativity, now that HitlerBurton is CIC it's barely discussed or it's Breadline America:

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The economy snapped out of a sluggish spell and grew at a faster-than- expected 3.5 percent pace in the final quarter of last year as consumers ratcheted up spending despite a painful housing slump.

Castro carbo loads for the '07 NYC Marathon:

HAVANA (Reuters) - State television showed Fidel Castro for the first time in three months on Tuesday and the ailing Cuban leader said he was still in the fight to recover.

And to think he overcame this:

The shortcut involved sewing the colon to the rectum but did not heal properly and broke apart, releasing gastric fluid with feces that caused serious infection, El Pais said on its Web site.

Castro, 80, looked stronger but still frail in images of Monday's two-hour meeting with Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, his closest ally in Latin America.

Hang in there buddy, the world needs you...

I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby must die!! Nail his milky, white forehead to the
floor!  The side of the DC anti-war rally we didn't see much of:  What are these guys gonna do when HitlerBurton is gone?

Hugo's new, sweeping powers: Remake America, please
Hugo??

If he were in Berlin and thrust his four fingers forward it would be the German equivalent of a $100.00 fine....

Bush is a Chimp, Laura's a Stepford Wife, the Daughters are Sorority Sluts, Brit Hume's the
Devil:

Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards, who is running on an anti-poverty platform, is facing questions about his $6 million estate near Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

The Raleigh News and Observer says Edwards has been asked whether there is a contradiction between his home—which has a basketball and racquetball courts, along with a pool — and his pledge to reduce poverty. Edwards has said that he's been lucky — making millions as a trial lawyer. He has said feels the responsibility to help people help themselves. In his first presidential campaign, he was attacked for living in a Georgetown mansion while he was talking about two Americas — one rich and one poor.
